PRESS RELEASE

LOVE/ISLAND couples the works of painter Adam Umbach and photographer Debranne Cingari, celebrating sand, sea, and sky in whimsical fashion.
Adam Umbach’s paintings of sea creatures, ships, and nautical objects are drawn from the artist’s experiences living in coastal Maine and on Long Island. Umbach’s work is inflected with nostalgia; childhood toys such as building blocks make frequent appearances on his canvases and in his 2025 sculptural debut, Whaley. A skilled realist painter, he channels a sense of youthful abandon by combining highly rendered subjects with expressive mark making. Umbach’s work also displays a devotion to sustained investigation and exploration. He will often paint a single subject in a variety of color combinations, giving his body of work a feeling of harmony and rhythm.
Debranne Cingari’s Little Words Project has garnered international attention with recent exhibitions in France (Paris) and Italy (Lake Como). In LOVE/ISLAND, planes fly above beautiful seascapes, carrying messages like “There’s Always the Next Ferry” and “It All Began in Nantucket.” Cingari winks at viewers with cheekier phrases like “What Happens in the Hamptons Stays in the Hamptons.” Complementing the Little Words series, Cingari’s lighthouse triptychs and traditional landscape photography present her unique vision of the beauty and serenity of island life. In June 2025, Cingari debuted Once Upon an Island, a gorgeous aerial view of Nantucket, its topography composed of over a thousand photographic fragments of the people, places, and objects that characterize the treasured isle.
LOVE/ISLAND is part of our 2025 Summer Duos series, online-only exhibitions that pair gallery artists for a fresh perspective on each maker’s work. Email art@cavaliergalleries.com to inquire about availability, pricing, and gallery location of individual artworks.
