Spring Bloom [Online Exhibition]

PRESS RELEASE

PRESS RELEASE: Spring Bloom [Online Exhibition], May 1 - May 31, 2015

Throughout history flowers have been used by artists as part of a rich language of visual symbolism dating as far back as ancient Egypt. Perhaps the best known masters of floral still life paintings were the Dutch during the golden age of the 17th Century when artists created intricately detailed bouquets of flowers deeply layered with the symbolism of each individual bloom to create an expansive narrative within a single vase. During the Victorian period people often used Floriography, the language of flowers, as a means of communication by sending arrangements of different types of flowers symbolizing different messages often called “talking bouquets.”

This spring Cavalier Galleries presents the online exhibition, Spring Bloom. With nearly fifty contemporary works varying in medium from sculpture to painting to photography, artists explore one of art’s oldest and most revered subjects: flowers.
