Cavalier Ebanks Galleries is proud to present the work of Maarten Platje and his traveling exhibition, The Early History of the U.S. Navy. For the past five years, Maarten has been working to bring to life the most important battles of the early United States Navy in a series of 15 oil paintings. Using both extensive research of the history of the battles and personal experience on the oceans where they took place, Maarten has accomplished the impressive feat of capturing what these battles would have realistically looked like with incredible accuracy.
Working professionally for over 30 years, Maarten Platje’s paintings reveal his ability to depict historic topics with a stunning level of detail. Platje has devoted himself to the art of maritime painting, and has been exhibiting his signature works since 1986. He studied at the Ars Aemula Naturae Art Academy in Leiden, in addition to other courses and rigorous study of old maritime drawings, models, and photographs. Upon graduating, Platje spent part of his youth as a sailor before devoting himself to the painting of ships; this period certainly contributed to his ability to transform his impressions and observations into highly-accurate and lively marine paintings.
Today and throughout his professional career, Maarten Platje’s impressive body of work has traveled internationally, and has earned him several accolades. Some of these include an official invitation by the Royal Dutch Navy to embark on a frigate during NATO operations in the Mediterranean waters and an invitation to exhibit his work at the yearly international commercial maritime event Europort in Amsterdam. Currently, Platje’s work is sold exclusively through Cavalier Ebanks Galleries and exhibited at important U.S. art fairs in New York City, Naples, and Palm Beach. His painting series from his time with the Royal Dutch Navy is on permanent display at the Naval Museum in Den Helder and at the Museum of the Marine Corps of the Royal Netherlands Navy in Rotterdam.
The Early History of the U.S. Navy will be available to view December 22 - 31, 2019 at Adelson Cavalier Galleries in Palm Beach, FL.
